Planet Word
A fun, exciting website to match the experience of a brand new museum.
Their Good in the World
Planet Word is a brand new museum in Washington DC, focused solely on language arts. In fact, it’s the world’s first voice-activated museum! Not only have they imagined and created this incredible museum, they bought and restored the historic Franklin School in the process. We love museums for their preservation and education – that’s the kind of good we want to see in the world!
A brand New Website
With a 2020 opening date approaching fast, we jumped in with design partner eighty2degrees to create a website worthy of this breakthrough museum being constructed simultaneously. We also needed to seamlessly integrate a 3rd party ticketing system.
The Idea
We love simplicity with a twist. Working with the designers and Planet Word crew, we wanted to make sure that the site was simple and consistent but with some fun interactive elements. After all, the museum is about interaction so the experience needed to start with the first touch point, the website.
The Design
After some lengthy chats, we let eighty2degrees do their creative thing (social impact by design), while we went on the all important hard hat tour. 😀 We checked in to make sure the designs were consistent, but mainly to compliment them on how beautiful they looked.
The Site
With a team of 3.5 developers (Lars jumped in on this too!) and a fairly brisk timeline, we got to work. We’re proud of what you can see (just check out that spinning surprise at the bottom of the homepage), but what you can’t see is equally impressive. The Planet Word team has control over colors and animations, and can spin up a new page in minutes that looks absolutely beautiful and flows with the rest of the site.
Did we mention the custom API integration?? API should stand for “a pain indeed”, but lucky we have the ever-patient and incredibly talented MJ who was able to wrangle everything into place and display not only a styled ticket checkout, but events and live streamed content, too!
