Hunger Report
Immersive annual report mapping hunger and food equity in the DMV
Their Good in the World
The Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) is a vital research and advocacy leader fighting hunger across the DMV. Beyond distribution, they investigate the root causes of food insecurity to build a more equitable food system. Their annual Hunger Report is an important research tool for policymakers, and we’re proud to help bring this critical data to the forefront.
Dynamic & Data-Driven Design
We partnered with the brilliant designers at eighty2degrees to bring CAFB’s annual report to life. While maintaining the core layout from year to year, our 2025 focus was on fresh stylistic elements and animations to make the dense data more engaging. The design balances a clean, human-centric aesthetic with the report’s serious findings, and subtle, purposeful animations help illustrate key trends and make complex statistics easier to digest.
The Idea
Our goal was to transform a massive, data-heavy report (surveying nearly 7,000 residents) into an engaging, interactive single-page web experience. The challenge was to guide users through a long-form narrative of complex data without overwhelming them, translating statistics into a clear and compelling story.
The Awesome
CAFB gathers the data; we build the platform that makes it impossible to ignore. By bringing eighty2degrees’ designs to life with responsive charts and dynamic loading, we ensure critical facts—like the fact that one in three DMV residents lack sufficient food—truly hit home. These interactive elements tell a story that a static PDF simply cannot.
The Site
We’re proud of our long-standing collaboration with CAFB and eighty2degrees. The 2025 Hunger Report showcases our ability to build high-impact technical tools for organizations doing real good. The result is a powerful advocacy tool that continues to move the needle for the entire DMV region.
